Credit repair scams

There are no quick fixed where credit is concerned. Many credit repair firms promise that they can clean up your credit history virtually overnight. They say that they have quick and easy techniques for making a bad credit report look good. Regardless of what they promise, there is nothing that they can do for you that you cannot do for yourself. Also, keep in mind that if something is true you cannot get it removed just because it looks bad.

Laws governing credit repair firms

There are some legitimate credit consultants who provide a valuable service to the public in helping people improve their credit ratings. Unfortunately, because there are few laws governing credit repair firms, anyone can call themselves a credit consultant and set themselves up in business. Many promises are made to get consumers to fork over their hard-earned money. Unfortunately, few of those promises are kept either because the firms have gone out of business or because the promises were impossible to keep in the first place. It is left up to consumers to become better educated in matters pertaining to their credit. Making informed decisions will prevent costly mistakes.

Money back guarantee?

Some credit repair firms promise results or your money is refunded. This sounds good. Although it may seem legitimate it can be nothing more than a scam to take your money. Exactly what results are you looking for? The "results" is too vague. Almost everyone has something small that can be modified on their credit report. But even if you get a specific guarantee, by the time you realize that you are not getting any satisfying results, the company could be out of business and you would be out of luck.

Your credit files stays with you

Now, the credit bureaus use unique identifiers to ensure accurate identification, increase the speed of service, and accommodate the volume of requests.

The credit bureaus check carefully

Credit repair firms contend that the credit bureaus cannot take the time to verify the information consumers send to them. This is not true. Because the credit bureaus have a legal obligation to keep accurate information in their files, and because they are in business supplying information to their members, they investigate in a timely manner each and every letter that they receive rom people saying that their credit file is not accurate. This is contrary to what some credit repair firms claim. They would like you to believe that it is utterly impossible for the credit bureaus to investigate even a portion of the letters that they receive, much less all of them.
